Immediate-past President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has called for the arrest of the instigators and perpetrators of the recent killings and reprisal attacks in Plateau State.
In a statement on his Twitter page, the former Governor of Kwara State called for an end to what he described as a “vicious cycle of violence” that would lead to the loss of innocent lives.
According to him, the recent killings with religious undertones in Plateau State are unacceptable provocations that must be condemned by all Nigerians.
“As the affected communities grapple with their significant losses and work towards healing, both the Plateau State and the Federal government must expedite all necessary actions to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
“The people who are responsible for instigating and executing these violent acts that will only propagate a vicious cycle of reprisals must be tried for their crimes. Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done to end the ongoing cycle of killings.
“At this time, when our nation is grappling with internal security challenges, we must all work to foster peace and unity in our respective communities. All of us, as Nigerians, must not only practice but continue to preach and propagate a conscientious tolerance for other religions and cultures.
“Parents and leaders must work hard to ensure that the young people that they raise in their respective homes and communities across the country, understand the value of appreciating other cultures in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious nation like ours.
“As we move forward, I ask that the affected communities and families exercise restraint at this time. The losses that you have experienced are enormous and in some cases, irreplaceable. I and millions of Nigerians across the nation stand with you at this difficult time. We feel your hurt and acknowledge the gravity of your pain.
“We cannot afford any more bloodshed or reprisal attacks that will claim more innocent lives. We must all work together to preserve our nation’s peace. This is the only country we have,” he added.
