Papa Penny gives President Rhamaposa 48 hours to fix things or else

Papa Penny

MUSICIAN Papa Penny has given President Cyril Ramaphosa 48 hours to intervene and resolve the plight of Mzansi’s artists.

Should he fail to intervene, Papa Penny is threatening to shut down the music industry and any work related to art in the country.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Sun, he said: “As artists, we have done everything to get assistance from the Department of Arts and Culture but we are ignored. We are done talking to Minister Nathi Mthethwa and now taking our demands to Ramaphosa.”

He said he was speaking on behalf of all affected artists.

“I am giving Ramaphosa 48 hours to intervene and resolve the plight of artists. If he continues to ignore us, we will have no choice but to shut down music in the country. I shall not dwell much on this but as artists, we have been talking among ourselves.

“As far as I’m concerned, everything revolves around art. For example, all broadcasters need music to function. I don’t want things to get to that point but if the president continues to ignore us, we will have to take this route.”

Papa Penny also sent a live video to Ramaphosa, where he was heard saying: “Mr President, I’m talking on behalf of all South African artists. We don’t have food and have lost our business of music. We are now faced with coronavirus and don’t see any budget for artists. Maybe it was given to friends and families. What have we done wrong? We’ve been in the industry for a long time. South Africa is here today because of artists. We used music to fight the struggle but today, we are treated as if we’ve done something wrong. Every day we lose good artists because of hunger and poverty. Please give a budget for all of us.”

A video clip and questions were sent to acting presidential spokesman Tyrone Seale, but he failed to respond.
