Dele Farotimi, a legal practitioner and political activist on Tuesday alleged a threat to his life over his position regarding the unfolding events regarding the #EndSars activities in Lagos State.
Farotimi who is a member of the Radical Agenda Movement in the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) said that he has already filed a petition to the DSS and Nigeria Police regarding a plan assassination by an attempt by some state actors who are not comfortable with his position.
“When you live in a country like Nigeria, you will always expect the unexpected because we live in a very violent country. I am already aware that I was offending a lot of powerful people due to my position in regards to the EndSars protest, the killings at the toll gate, and the plan reopening of the toll gate.”
“But on Tuesday last week, I was threatened by some state actors that my life is not safe so long am in Lagos and that I should watch my back because I can be killed at any time if I don’t back down.”
“Somebody who is also privileged to certain conversations at a certain level which I won’t want to disclose now revealed the calculated plan to assassinate me. I won’t reveal the name of my sources and I know it is not one of those empty threats because the threat was specific, names were mentioned and I know one of those mentioned at a personal level because he is someone I have known for years.”
Farotimi said that the alarm he was raising was not out of fear, “we will all die, I will soon be 53, I never thought I will leave to be 35, so have been blessed to have lived this long. However, it is clear and important for men to understand that they are not the givers of life and they cannot be the one to determine how a man will live his or her life.”
“I have written a petition to the law enforcement and security agencies and also requested protection from Nigeria state. Am not a drug baron, I don’t cheat people, if anything is to happen to me look no further than the person I mention in my petition, the identity I have already made clear to my associate and family.”
Farotimi however made it clear that his position on EndSars was not to seek any political office or money but an obligation he owes the future generation, “I have children, they should be able to live in a country where they are free, where they are able to fulfill the potential God gave them.
