Melissa Gorga and her husband Joe Gorga are in a much better place after fans watched them struggling in their marriage on the latest season of “Real Housewives of New Jersey.”
“I know we’re been married for 16 years, but we are still learning each other,” she told Us Weekly on Monday. “There’s different turning points, I would say, in marriages.”
She continued, “Joe is not big on change and he likes things to stay the same. He likes to know that everything’s going to be intact and probably, that’s what makes him a great husband. But for me, I’m all about change right now.”
Joe and Melissa chronicled the issues in their relationship on the show, with Melissa proclaiming in the finale that she “[didn’t] want to die unhappy” in her marriage.
“I wanna feel fulfilled,” she said. “Not just as a mom. And I’ve never seen Joe fight so hard against something that I want. So I am feeling really scared about our relationship because I’ve never felt this exhaustion and feeling of giving up.”
Melissa previously told Page Six that they “went through a rough, like year-and-a-half” before the coronavirus pandemic hit because of Joe was unhappy that Melissa wanted to expand her duties outside of being a homemaker.
“It’s not that he’s not proud of that. He is proud of [what I do], but it does pull me out of the house a lot,” she told Us Weekly. “It was becoming strenuous for us because he just doesn’t want it. And I’m not willing to give it up.”
She also told the outlet that the pandemic was “rough” for them because they were together for a lot more time than they usually are.
However, Melissa said they have made improvements in their relationship since the show wrapped including her telling him to stop picking on her and being more choosey with her work.
“He stopped picking on every little thing I do as if it was going to have like change our life, every move I made,” she said, before adding, “I’m being a little more choosy where before I was like, ‘Nope, I’m doing every single thing. This is what I have to do.’ I think I’m picking and choosing a little bit more now.”
