China called to separate politics from the research on the origin of SARS-CoV-2 and criticized the United States for manipulating the hypothesis that the virus escapes from a lab.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wang Wenbin stressed that looking into how the virus broke out, evolved and was passed to humans is up to science, not to an intelligence agency.
The official rejected any efforts to use the pandemic to ‘stigmatize, tag and blame,’ and denounced the damage caused by such actions on the necessary cooperation, which ought to involve several countries.
In Wenbin’s words, China has been transparent, open and cooperative at all times in tracking the virus, and inviting experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) to conduct two investigations in China proves it.
However, the official urged other countries to open their doors to the WHO and allowing serious research into the virus and the subsequent disease.
The calls to investigate deeper into the origins of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus takes into account all sorts of hypotheses, up to its possible escape from a lab, which gained strength again last week, in the context of the 74th World Health Assembly.
