Orlando Pirates of South Africa left it late to beat Enyimba of Aba 2-1 in a CAF Confederation Cup second group match decided at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg Wednesday.
In a match dominated by the home team, particularly in the second half, the Buccaneers took the lead in the 27th minute through Deon Hotto and the goal brought Enyimba out to create a lot of chances.
But the Peoples Elephants had the chance to level up inside the added minutes of the first half as captain, Augustine Oladapo, scored from the spot after Enyimba player was upended.
In the second half, Enyimba seemed to have gone to sleep as the Buccaneers dictated the pace of the game, coming close on several occasions.
However, what would have been the lead was missed in the 77th minute as the home side missed a spot kick, with Tshegofatso Mabaso playing wide.
When Enyimba were already dreaming of running away with a point, their hosts pegged them as Mabaso made amend for his penalty miss and scored in the 89th minute to win the game for the hosts.
Pirates are now top of the table with four points from two games after they drew their first match away to ES Setif of Algeria.
