The Conference of States Civil Society Networks has said the silence of President Muhammadu Buhari over an alleged recent missing $1billion arms funds is worrisome and casts aspersions on the government’s stance on the ongoing fight against corruption.

The group, in a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting and made available by Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, the of the president the Kano Civil Society Forum, said all eyes were on the government to take appropriate action.

They said the probe of the arms deal would be one sure means of gaining the trust and confidence of Nigerians in the government’s fight against corruption and all other dimensions of corrupt practices in the country.

The group stated that the continuous attempt by some elements to distract the attention of government through the alleged conspiracy to remove or replace the National Security Adviser, Gen Babagana Munguno, amounted to a great disservice to the country, saying that calls for his sack were unnecessary; rather, there’s the need to unravel the truth behind the issues.

“Mungono deserves national honour and respect for his revelations on the alleged missing funds released for the procurement of arms and ammunition, not persecution by those who are hell-bent on destroying the reputation and integrity of the country for their personal gains and arrogance,” the group stated.
