Some bandits have invaded Government Secondary School, Ungwan Sarki in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State, carting away National Examination Council question papers.
Sunday PUNCH gathered that the hoodlums had trailed a NECO supervisor from one of the new generation banks in town into the school.
The hooded gunmen, it was further learnt, pounced on the female supervisor and made away with all examination papers meant to be used by the SS3 students, believing it was money.
A source said, “When the bandits invaded the school, they ordered the NECO official to surrender the examination papers. Even though the official told the gunmen the content, they still didn’t believe her.
“Apparently, the bandits trailed the official from one of the new generation banks, where she went to collect the examination materials, into the school. They demanded the materials be handed over to them, thinking it was money.”
There was confusion on Friday, following the attack, as parents stormed the school to withdraw their children for fear of being kidnapped.
This comes less than three weeks after the abduction of 121 students of the Bethel Baptist High School along Kaduna-Kachia Highway, Chikun LGA in Kaduna.
Even as three of the students were reported to have escaped from the bandits, 118 students were still with the bandits who demanded a N60m ransom for their release.
As of the time of filing this report, an official police statement had yet to be made as to the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, could not be reached.
Meanwhile, there was confusion at Mararaban Jos, in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna as police battled bandits in the area on Friday.
Maraban Jos, in the northern axis of Kaduna, is a satellite town where travellers, especially petroleum tanker drivers converge while on transit.
It is also close to the Armed Forces Command and Staff College’s Cantonment, Jaji.
The state Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, who confirmed the attack on Saturday, said the hoodlums wanted to take over the armoury of the Police Divisional Headquarters but were resisted by the gallant officers on guard duty.
According to Jalige, the bandits came into the town in large numbers, shooting indiscriminately while targeting the armoury of the division
He, however, noted that despite three of its personnel – an Inspector, two Special Constabulary were left with varying degrees of injuries, the bandits were over powered as they(bandits) escaped with bullet wounds.
He said the personnel were currently undergoing medical treatment while adding that the command had since launched an investigation into the attack.
The Police Spokesman said, “On the 23rd July 2021 at 2300hrs there was an attack on Maraban Jos Divisional Police Headquarters where bandits in large number came in three Sharon utility vehicles and in their desperate attempt to override the Personnel on duty shot sporadically in order to gain access into the Divisional armoury but met professional and stiffer resistance from the personnel on duty.’’
“The gun duel between the bandits and the Station Guards lasted for some minutes, however; the superior and tactical firepower of the Police forced the bandits to the retreat of which some have sustained fatal bullet wounds.
